A Word From Marc: Once again we are all adjusting as Winter approaches. There are signs. The clocks are adjusted so now I don't have to run with a headlight in the morning but then I feel exhausted and in the dark at 4:30 in the afternoon. The mice have started their yearly migration into our house. I set a new daily PR the other day catching five. I am dragging out the Holiday decorations from the attic and setting them in the garage until I start that annual ritual on Thanksgiving Day. I'm in charge of the outside lights. Within one of these dusty bins is the most cherished of all my decorations. A set of C9 incandescent lights. I loved these brightly colored bulbs as a kid for a single reason. During chilly Long Island Decembers my friends and I would cup our mittened hands around these lights to keep our fingers warm. You had to keep your gloves on or these bulbs were capable of inflicting at least minor burns. They don't sell these lights anymore. Probably for a good reason, safety and all, but I do miss the days when we learned when something was too hot, too cold or too sharp just by touching it first. I'm pretty sure any emergency room doctor would say I'm a little misguided in my life lessons department. I watched one daughter chew a worm that she found because she was curious. I watched my other daughter sleep outside in an unheated gazebo all winter because she likes the cold. They're fine. I occasionally think we apply a bit too much bubble wrap around our kids. I think it's sometimes OK to get your tongue stuck to the frozen light pole. Just saying. Out of the 43 homes for sale in North Oaks 15 of them are sold. That's over a third. That's a very healthy real estate market. I know there's all kinds of noise out there in the world but in the end our house values are doing well. Very well indeed. A healthy housing market gives me the warm fuzzies. So get the pilot light going on the gas fireplace and stay warm. If needed you can come over and warm up next to my C9's. -Marc.
