A Word From Marc: A few years ago during one of my homecoming visits to New York I had dinner at 11 Madison Park. It's one of many restaurants in Midtown Manhattan. What I thought was just going to be a nice dinner ended up being the most singularly interesting food experience of my life. It also taught me the concept of unreasonable hospitality. I know that many people only think of the word unreasonable in a negative context but unreasonable can mean just not acting in an ordinary way. What I watched that evening was exactly the opposite of reasonable. It was excessive in the most beautiful way. It was about leaning in and realizing one size doesn't fit all. It turns out one size fits one. This restaurant has an employee called a dream weaver. Someone whose sole job is to make sure that a customer's meal experience far exceeds not only their expectations but alters what one would expect from a restaurant. Some courses came in a box that I unwrapped as a present. The dishes were so unique that sometimes I had to guess what I was actually eating. Yes the food was delicious but the people serving it didn't take themselves too seriously. Frankly it was fun. Here I was in a place that was voted the best restaurant in the world in 2017 and they did so simply by being engaged and giving people a meaningful experience. This really made me think of how I can provide service as a real estate agent to my customers, clients and friends. Everybody thinks real estate is about houses but really it's about the people. It's about the interaction between the contracts and negotiations. It's about being surprised that the selling experience went way beyond what you thought was going to be just a monetary transaction. Selling a house is a big deal. It should be handled professionally with your best fiduciary interest in mind. Yet it's who we choose to create these transactions with that make it an experience we value. If we strive to provide the best service at our job then we can do it in an interesting and creative way. Sometimes that may appear unreasonable but maybe it's just thinking outside the box. A beautifully wrapped box. That's how I think of Unreasonable hospitality. It's like Christmas morning unwrapping our best presents with our favorite people and eating great food. Be well! Marc. 11 I have a Lake Superior beach house coming for sale on Park Point Duluth.
